Dr. Danielle Fontenot, MD is a board-certified vascular surgeon who has dedicated her entire career to the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease. Since joining Asheville Vein Center in 2021, she has brought her exceptional training, research background, and genuine compassion for patients to every consultation and procedure.
Education & Training
Dr. Fontenot earned her Bachelor of Science from Louisiana State University in 2009, her Master of Science from Tulane University in 2011, and her Doctor of Medicine from LSU School of Medicine – New Orleans in 2015. She then completed her residency in Vascular Surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa, serving as Chief Resident from 2019 to 2020 — her first choice training program.
Research & Academic Achievement
During her training, Dr. Fontenot participated in multiple research projects resulting in publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. She is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). She is also a published medical illustrator. She has won multiple skills and presentation competitions at national vascular surgery meetings — a reflection of both her clinical skill and her commitment to advancing the field.
Following her residency, Dr. Fontenot provided care as a vascular surgeon at Banner Health in Phoenix, AZ before joining Asheville Vein Center. Her entire professional focus has been on vein disease.

A Bit More About Dr. Fontenot
Dr. Fontenot was born and raised in New Orleans, LA and met her husband Philip during medical school. After completing medical school they moved to Tampa, FL to complete their residencies in Vascular Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery, respectively. They moved into a historic home in Asheville in August 2021. They enjoy outdoor activities such as cycling, skiing and hiking. They also love exploring the mountains and surrounding area with their daughters Frances and Margot and their dog Maisy. Dr. Fontenot also enjoys cooking, trying new foods and horseback riding.
