Varicose Vein Treatment

Effective, modern techniques — no stripping, no hospital, minimal downtime.

About Varicose Veins

Bulging varicose veins are far more common than you might think — and many people avoid wearing shorts, skirts, or bathing suits because of them. That’s a shame, because treatment for bulging varicose veins is straightforward and highly effective.

Bulging veins are usually too large for sclerotherapy to work well on its own. Instead, Dr. Fontenot and Dr. Bock often use modern microphlebectomy — a technique far superior to the old method of vein stripping. Under local anesthesia given in the office, our physicians make tiny micro-incisions and remove the varicose veins with a specialized instrument. No sutures are necessary — just two days in compression stockings.

When appropriate, ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy can also be used alongside microphlebectomy for optimal results. Both techniques can be combined with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of underlying diseased veins when reflux is present.

Patients are encouraged to walk immediately after microphlebectomy and typically return to normal activities within a few days. Microphlebectomy sites heal remarkably well and become nearly invisible over time.
